AmeriCorps VISTA Member

SEEDS is looking for AmeriCorps VISTA Members!

If you have an interest in engaging with SEEDS on developing high quality after school programming at schools in Northwest Michigan, full-time positions will be available through the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) program. The VISTA Member program is a year-long contract that offers a living stipend, health coverage benefits, and an educational award at completion of service. The education award can be used to pay off student loans or for other educational opportunities.

The following are possible specific AmeriCorps VISTA Member support tasks (please mention any preferences you may have relating to task and/or geographic placement):

Youth Conservation Corps
  • Setting up, preparing and taking down activity locations
  • Conduct market research for new enterprise development
  • Network and develop collaborations with new community partners
  • Assist communications in drafting language for new enterprises
  • Monitor project progress and track project metrics
  • Assist with crew member skill tracking
  • Assist with capturing new story content for crew members
After School
  • Setting up, preparing and taking down activity locations
  • Greeting students and getting them prepared for activities
  • Improving relationships with school staff, teachers, administrators and with other related community members
  • Recruiting volunteers, resources, activities and donations
  • Recruiting and registering students
  • Outreach, communications, publicity for events and achievements
  • Following student achievements, engaging parents and coordinating services
  • Reporting support
  • Outreach and publicity
  • Media Relations, press releases, earned media
  • Attending and presenting at meetings
  • Planning special events
  • Grant development
  • Donor appreciation (volunteers, inkind and financial contributors)
  • Implementation of monitoring tools (e.g. surveys)
  • Reporting and synthesizing data
  • Integrating with organizational communications
  • Research best practices
Green Team Development
  • Help school institutions save money while saving resources
  • Identify and implement best practices for energy, purchasing etc.
Lesson Plan
  • Research best practices
  • Amend and develop to fit SEEDS' programming
Family Integration
  • Coordinate whole-family activities ranging from concerts to resume training
  • Create opportunities for mentoring (peer-to-peer and adult-to-student)
  • Create opportunities service learning


Placements are determined based on VISTA Member skills and interests, as well as program needs.
