We will be celebrating the end of the school year with our Fourth Annual Thrift Shoppe Fashion Show and Spaghetti Dinner. Please join us as the SEEDS KMS students show off their attire chosen for various activities such as a job interview, casual day out on the town or a formal evening dinner engagement. After the show, there will be a spaghetti dinner with all the fixings. Please join us - all are welcome!
On Friday, February 22, 2013, families joined SEEDS staff for a Winter Warm-up Celebration and Meal. We had some fun outdoor activities, karaoke and other entertainment as well as some hearty food. We'd like to thank everyone for the great turnout.
SEEDS celebrated the start of another year of afterschool programs with a bang at KMS. Students made apple cider and caramel apples from apples donated at cost by the Cherry Street Market. When their families came to pick them up, they were greeted with a tasty treat and fresh cider.
SEEDS staff were on hand at the annual Blazer Bash with lots of local tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, and cilantro - much of it from the SEEDS Farm at the Barns. Students, families, and friends tried their hand at making their own salsa or just enjoyed the salsa made by SEEDS staff. What a great way to celebrate the start of another school year!
Riverside Shakespeare Performs A Midsummer Night's Dream
SEEDS sponsored a free community performance of Riverside Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Kalkaska Mill Pond Park on Thursday, July 26th. Over 60 people came out for an evening of laughter and entertainment. Look for more Shakespeare next summer!
SEEDS sponsored a free family night at a Traverse City Beach Bums game on Tuesday, July 17th. More than 50 students and families from Kalkaska came out to enjoy the game. To top it off, the Bums took their second straight win over the Florence Freedom with a 10-2 final score. Way to go Bums!
Our third annual End of the School Year Celebration was a smashing success! We grilled Shetler Dairy burgers and dogs, ate some stellar homemade baked beans alongside several salads. An ice cream sundae bar with 5 gallons of Shetler ice cream was quickly consumed, topped with a multitude of sundae topping choices. Other fun included a watermelon eating contest, music, and lots of games. We'd like to send a big thank-you to all the families that came out and helped with the party!
Students at the SEEDS KMS Afterschool program were certainly geared up for the 3rd Annual Thrift Shoppe Fashion Show, Spaghetti Dinner and Clothing Swap. The fashion show started at 5 pm in the SEEDS room - complete with an actual catwalk and light show! Many families and friends joined us as the students strutted their carefully chosen themed outfits. A spaghetti dinner and clothing swap followed directly after the fashion show. It was a fun night for all!
Please download and complete our Family Survey! We will use the information as a guide for future activities and events.
Are you interested in yoga? Or perhaps advancing your technology skills? SEEDS at Kalkaska Middle School can offer some adult-only opportunities to parents and caregivers of our students. Child care may also be available. If you have an idea that you would like for us to offer as adult programming, please email Jana Lanning, the Kalkaska County Outreach Coordinator, or call her at 231.357.6896. Let's have some fun learning something new together!
