What About Transportation?

Each school site and each family has different needs. Access to transportation can be a limiting factor, especially in Michigan, so some sites provide incentives to use public transit and carpools. SEEDS always provides for transportation on field trips. Talk to your site's Coordinator for more information.

Will My Student Enjoy it?

Our Coordinators provide diverse programs unique to each school and surrounding community. Our programs encourage good nutrition, spending time outside, and using hands and bodies. Our after school program serves an average of 220 students each and every program day! So far this year we've:

• Danced and done yoga
• Played music and created sculptures
• Learned about biology, ecology and nature skills
• Utilized multi-media technologies like film, audio, and web development
• Gone skiing
• Learned to cook from scratch
• Gotten tutoring and homework help

We are always looking for new ideas, please share yours. We also provide activities and enrichment for the whole family ranging from cultural events to job hunting skills. Please plug in!

Is This Related to Youth Corps?

A special component of our after school programming is the SEEDS Youth Conservation Corps. Modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s New Deal, this is a team-based employment and training program that puts teens and young adults to work on labor-intensive projects. Youth Corps empowers youth through service learning.

Members of SEEDS Youth Corps are selected from SEEDS After School participants who demonstrate good attendance and discipline. In return, they are offered on-the-job training in green collar industries.

What is Green Collar?

Green collar industries bring economic value to a community while also adding value to the natural resources and the social fabric of a community. Green collar jobs are 21st Century jobs. We prepare youth for quality jobs that will be available to them in the 21st Century. They know this and so they work hard at learning.
