Frankfort High School

Welcome to Frankfort!

Welcome back to a new year at Frankfort Junior and Senior High School! SEEDS After School is in its second year at Frankfort as a DHS licensed 21st Century Community Learning Center program. Working with the school, our goal at SEEDS is to provide students with interesting, educational, relevant, fun, and free after school activities throughout the school year.

Last year SEEDS provided a wide range of opportunities for all Frankfort students that included activities for students struggling in school, looking for additional social outlets, volunteering in their community, exploring hobbies, and increasing physical activity. Over the summer SEEDS employed over twenty Benzie County students in our Youth Conservation Corps program. Our Youth Corps worked on community and conservation projects throughout the area and in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, such as invasive plant removal, trail restoration work, campsite renovation, and beach cleanup. Other Youth Corps members helped staff local summer camp programs in the area.

This year we hope to offer Frankfort students even more! Academic programs we provide after school include tutoring, ACT preparation, and credit recovery opportunities. We are excited to provide physical activities for students such as weightlifting programs, disc golf, rock climbing, and access to Traverse City’s Trigger Boxing program. Field trips and hands-on activities will supplement classroom learning and will include cooking classes, art projects, guitar lessons, fishing adventures, volunteer work and other outdoor activities.  Additionally, we will provide opportunities for students to learn “green” job skills by learning about community gardening, retrofitting schools and homes to become more energy efficient, offering scholarships to our fall Bioneers Conference, and continuing to offer jobs through our Youth Conservations Corps.

Our activities are absolutely free and will take place from 3 to 6 pm Monday through Thursday for the entire school year.  We are willing to arrange transportation home for students, if needed, and an after school snack is provided. If you have additional ideas, would like to volunteer your time, or would like to chat about how we can best serve your student through our program, we would love to talk.  You can reach us at school in Room 22, by e-mail at dan@ecoseeds.org, or josh@ecoseeds.org, or call anytime at 231-352-4781 ext. 220.

Parents, volunteers, and other community members are encouraged to check out what we’re doing! For up-to-date after school news and photos, please Like us on Facebook.
