The Forest Area SEEDS After School Program works out of Forest Area Middle School and High School and is open to students grades 6-12. We are located between Fife Lake and South Boardman on Shippy Rd, just off of 131, south of Kalkaska. We operate Monday-Thursday from 3:30-6:30pm during the school year and we ran a summer camp this year from June 21st-August 5th from 9am-3pm. All of our programs are free of charge, or for a voluntary donation to SEEDS, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. No students will be turned away from any program for lack of money.
The after school programs combine youth enrichment opportunites with supplementary academic support to provide students with a well rounded program that develops learning academics as well as valuable life skills.
In the first quarter of 2011, the Green Team at Forest Area directly intercepted and prevented 410 pounds of paper, 6 pounds of plastic, and 147 pounds of metal from going to a landfill.
Programming is generated by student interest. Some of our programs this year may include cooking classes, art club, outdoor adventure club, horse care, auto mechanics, pep squad, green team, movie making, swimming and skating at the Kaliseum, disc golf, skiing, skate board club, trigger boxing, Odyssey of the Mind, speed stacking, Junior Achievement, baby sitters training, life guard training, tutoring, yoga, and more!
We work with residents as well as local businesses and school staff to provide community events and a positive atmosphere that benefits Forest Area youth.
